The early 90's was an incredible time for Metal. The big Four Thrash kings were all on the top of the charts. Anthrax had a single with one of the biggest Hip Hop acts at the time Public Enemy. Metallica's Black album became one of the biggest selling records of all time. Slayer's Seasons in the Abyss was met with critical Acclaim and finding heavy rotation on MTV. Pantera was also quickly becoming the greatest metal band of the decade. More extreme forms of Metal were also finding a voice on MTV and selling fast in record stores. One of the largest Hollywood films Ace Ventura featured a scene with Jim Carey rocking out with Cannibal Corpse. Megadeth also found heavy mainstream success with their follow up to one of the greatest albums in Metal, Rust in Peace. Countdown to Extinction marked the beginning of the end of the classic Thrash era with slower, shorter and more commercially accessible songs, but unlike the three albums that followed, it still had the spirit of Thrash Metal throughout. The clinical/mechanical sounding production and the near perfect performances made this a classic Metal Masterpiece.
I really wanted to cover a deep cut on this album and Captive Honour immediately came to mind. I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I do.
