We usually say the sporran is the one kilt accessory you can not do without. How else can you carry your bits and bobs like wallet, keys, phone, etc? The sporran (Gaelic for purse) is a medieval technology that survived to the present day for use with the kilt - basically because it makes so much sense. The sporran is also a great way of completing your outfit. The sporran allows you to carry your gear, and at the same time can be very sharp looking and is often beautifully decorated. The sporran also allows you to express your personal style and personality.
So...does all this go out the window with a Great Kilt since you have many folds of cloth in which you may carry small items? Rocky & Erik discuss.
