Alginates are hydrocolloids or biopolymers that are obtained from seaweed and are water soluble when mixed under the correct conditions. They are used in the food, pharmaceutical and specialist chemical industries as thickening, stabilising and gelling agents.
In this video, find out how Silverson High Shear mixers can help get you the results you want when mixing alginates.
Alginate dispersions require high shear to eliminate agglomerates, and conventional mixing equipment can’t readily do this, resulting in long mixing times.
Using a High Shear mixer the thickening effect of the alginate is maximised, increasing yield which can result in formulations using reduced amounts of alginate to achieve the same results, helping to save money on raw material costs.
