Edison Pereyra performing Tedesco's Tarantella. This video was recorded and produced at home.
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) was an Italian composer, pianist, and writer. Working with Andres Segovia, Tedesco has written nearly one hundred pieces for the guitar, many of which are staples of the guitar repertoire today.
"Tarantella" derives its name from Taranto in Apulia, Italy. Traditionally phrased in 3/8 or 6/8, this dance gained popularity when rumors spread that it was a cure for the mildly toxic bite of a spider (or tarantula). Of course, this legend has been discredited numerous times, but that did not stop people from playing and dancing in this wonderful, fast-paced style!
