Courtnee Roze (The Culture) Winner AfroPunk's Battle of the bands 2017
Courtnee Roze (link) is a New York-based percussionist, lyricist, writer and bandleader, heading up an instrumental fusion and percussion-driven band. Called a “firecracker of a woman…truly a delight to watch,” (Brooklyn Roads), Roze has studied and played percussion – her instruments of choice being djembe and congas – since the age of seven. She has performed and collaborated with artists like J. Cole, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Tony Award-winner Lachanze (The Color Purple), Cirque Du Soleil and more. She has performed throughout New York City at small but mighty venues like Joe’s Pub and National Sawdust to the storied stages of Carnegie Hall and the Apollo Theater.
While Roze’s band lineup may change from show to show, the heart of the music never does. Roze defines her mission with every live concert she plays - creating a quilt of diversity layered with futuristic creativity, monologue, dance, deep African Sound and a vocal pattern that is non-metrically structured.
