In this soap video, I will make what is often referred to as Traditional Lye Soap. It is made with just 100% lard, lye and water and is the old fashioned soap that was used for generations in most homes and is perfect for homesteading, plus it's zero waste. If you fancy making this DIY homemade lard soap you can find the full recipe below. Lard soap can take a while to thicken and come to trace so it is a good idea to use a water discount to help speed the process up a little. I am using a 28% water ratio in this recipe but you can use even less. Lard is made from rendered pork fat or tallow and has been used for making soap for over a thousand years, and no, there is no animal smell in the soap :) If you do not know how to make cold process soap, please check out a beginner's tutorial and follow the safety guidelines before trying this out at home.
Easy Old Fashioned Lard Soap Recipe
