Here's the next Scales & Tales episode with part two of the Modal Mastery series.
This lesson focuses on providing mental images to help you associate the sound and flavor of each mode from the major scale with a certain guitarist, which is a strategy that helped me and countless students I've worked with over the years.
This concept really helps you mentally hone-in by providing a player you can think of which is related to each mode, in addition to supplying the overall sound/flavor of each modal scale using the appropriately selected player as s hint/guide.
This lesson also shares a concept I've used with students for many years called 'modal drones' - where we're using a ringing open string as a drone, which gives your ear a taste of the key and each modal tonality we're visiting and working with during this lesson.
While it's not as nice as having a full chord or chord progression played behind you, practicing with droned strings gives you a chance to refine these sounds in a different and unique way, and also gives you an unusually solid practicing concept when you're jamming by yourself.
