A taxonomic database is created to hold information on biological taxa(a group of one or more populations of an organism or organisms). For example groups of organisms organised by species name or other taxonomic identifier in order for efficient data management and information retrieval.
Taxonomy Database is a curated classification for all of the organisms in the public sequence databases. This currently represents about 10% of the described species of life on the planet. The goal of a taxonomic database is to accurately model the characteristics of interest that are relevant to the organisms which are in scope for the intended coverage and usage of the system.
