How To Use Style Tuner Inside Midjourney
Midjourney just released their newest feature in the latest update, called style tuner.
Style tuner allows you to generate a batch of different images based off of an initial image prompt in a set number of different styles.
Before we start, make sure that you’re using the latest Midjourney Model Version 5.2, and that you’re in fast mode. This does take up a lot of GPU credits too, so just be aware of that.
To start the style tuner, type in the new command, /tune. You’ll see then that this now starts a new prompt.
Go ahead and enter the image prompt that you want to get style variations on. We’ll say portrait of a woman. Run that, and you’ll get a message box where we can setup our settings.
The style tuner creates the images in pairs. So, we can choose the style directions dropdown here, and choose between 16, 32, 64, and 128. You’ll see what I mean with pairs in a minute, but if you choose 16 for example, you’ll get 32 images total to choose from. This is the part that will take up a lot of GPU credits though. So if you’re running low, start with 16 or 32.
Next, you can choose between default or raw modes. I’ll just keep it at default.
When you’re ready, you’ll see about how many credit hours your styles will take, and that it takes a couple of minutes to complete. Hit submit and confirm and give it a minute.
When it’s finished, you’ll see that the style tuner has finished, and a link has been created to check out. Choose that and follow through to the new tuner.midjourney.com website link it gives you.
So, here’s where you create your new style. Looking here, you’ll see three columns. The pairs are to the left and right of the center. So since we chose 16, you’ll see we have 16 rows of different styled images.
To build your new style, go through and choose between the pairs. So, if we like the style more from this left image here, you can select this one. If you like neither style, just leave the center selected.
Let’s go ahead and choose one of these here that I like. Once you do, scroll down to the bottom, and you’ll see prompt message box here. This is the important piece. You’ll see an imagine command, our image prompt we used, and now at the end, a new style code. This code creates your image prompts now in the style or blend of styles that you chose.
So let’s say we have the new style that we want to generate images with. When you’re ready, select the copy button here to copy the line.
Head back into Midjourney, and paste this new imagine command in. You can then run this new prompt, and it will generate new images in the new style.
But what’s really cool, is we can now use this style code to add to any image prompt we want and get the same style. So, I’ll paste back in the prompt here again, but this time change it from a portrait of a woman to a man. And, we get new images, and they all look like they came from the same world.
You can save these style codes, share them with others, add more parameters like stylize, and a ton more. Just treat the style code as permanent piece of the prompt and experiment from there.
And that’s how you use the new style tuner command feature inside of Midjourney.
Thanks for watching! Give it a thumbs up if you found this helpful!
