Aldous Leonard Huxley (26 July 1894 to 22 November 1963) was an English philosopher and writer. His works include various narratives, poems, and essays and almost 50 fiction and nonfiction books. Aldous was born into the prestigious Huxley family. He earned an undergraduate degree in English literature from Balliol College in Oxford.
In his early career, he edited for the magazine Oxford Poetry and published short stories and other poetry. He then moved to publish political satire, travel writing, and screenplays. He lived in Los Angeles, California from 1937 until his passing. While still alive, Aldous Huxley was regarded as among the most influential intellectual of his day. The Royal Society of Literature elected him the Companion of Literature in 1962 and he was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature nine times.
His interest in philosophical mysticism and universalism let to his pacifist leanings.
