How many times have you dug through your mini collection in search of suitable NPCs and turn up empty-handed? Any seasoned collector knows that NPC miniatures are shockingly rare, and because most tabletop RPGs and wargames are so combat-focused, populating a basic settlement with peasants can be inconvenient, costly, and downright frustrating. For those reasons, peasants are the perfect starting point for my miniatures-from-scratch video series. They don't require too much detail or fragile, fiddly bits and frankly you can get away with having some really weird looking NPCs and no one will pay too much attention to it.

These guys didn't come out amazing or excellent by any means, but I think they are passable and a good starting point for entry-level crafters and they get the job done. With a few quick buildings and a handful of these guys, your party can buy/sell items, gather lore from the area, accept quests, and maybe have some laughs along the way. If nothing else, they provide some moving target cannon fodder for your resident murder hobo.


Making D&D/tabletop miniatures from scratch is awesome and incredibly therapeutic for me so I've recorded a series of videos showing my progress and ideas within this niche. As of now I have made tons but the limiting factor to my uploads is finding time for editing all the footage. I always wanted to see some of my favorite tabletop crafting channels take on building miniatures completely from scratch, but with the rise of affordable and precise 3D printers, I felt like I'd never get to actually see that kind of content on YouTube so I decided to make it myself.

Tom Mason is one person I found that is actually making miniatures and he is for sure a personal hero of mine (definitely check out his videos!). However, as a noob to the hobby I found it really hard to follow along with a legitimate professional and I had been looking for a noob-friendly peasant-level version for years. Finally I decided to throw my own hat into the ring. I was a big fan of Black Magic Craft from the very start of his channel (I tuned in at about 200 subs) and getting to learn and develop skills along with him was really what got me hooked on the hobby, so that is exactly what I am trying to accomplish with my video series of crafting miniatures from scratch for anyone that might become interested in the process.

I am not trying to position myself as an expert at all. I definitely find it way easier to learn from recent-learners than from masters of a craft though, so I know how powerful documenting the learning process can be. There are certainly easier and more efficient ways to do most of these things, and I am nowhere close to being an expert but I have some big dreams for creative projects down the road and developing my mini-sculpting skills is an important part of that.
