Partial Script:
* There are two big projects in the works for Friday the 13th
* The first one is the Crystal Lake TV show that we’ve known about for a long time now but between the lawsuit and strikes and all that it’s taken a little while to get off the ground.
* But it finally looks like it’s actually happening for real this time because
* Adrienne King tweeted about her first writers meeting last March and confirmed that it’s a collaboration between Peacock and A24 which is interesting.
* She seems like she’s got some pretty heavy involvement in the series which is a little odd because I don’t really know what character she’s going to play.
* She could be playing Pamela Voorhees but that might be a little weird since in the first Friday the 13th she was the final girl.
* She could also be playing that classic older character who’s encountered Jason before and begrudgingly tells the teenagers the secret to defeating him but if this is a reboot then connecting it back to the actual first movie instead of remaking it would be a little tricky.
* With it being called a requel there is the possibility that it’s set during the modern day too right? Like I just immediately assumed that it would be set in the 80’s because, you know, it’s Friday the 13th but what if the show is set up where Alice didn’t die in Part 2 but lived all the way until 2024 and then there’s a new group of counselors or relatives of Jason’s victims or whatever trying to figure out what’s going on and then they find her.
* That could be cool as long as the time is split pretty 50/50 between the 80’s retelling of the Friday lore and the modern day stuff that would presumably involve adult Jason.
* So yeah, it’s fun to look into what character she’s going to play but I might just be putting a lot of importance on her since she’s the only cast member that’s been announced for the show.
* The writing process reportedly went great with them getting through six episodes worth of content in the time that it would take other writers rooms to get through one.
* Kevin Williamson is also on board to write at least one episode and for what tone a Friday the 13th requel series is going for, I feel like he’s a great pick for an episode or two. I don’t want this whole series to look and feel like Scream because Scream’s focus isn’t really on the killer in the way that I look for with slasher movies.
