Sure, it’s a novelty song from 1958, but you CAN dance to it!
This is the first American Bandstand episode taped in color so all of the songs today have a color in the title. For the record, Sheb Wooley’s #1 hit song is about a monster that eats purple people and not a monster that is, itself, purple. Who knew?
For me, Frank Vanderpuil and Peggy Waggoner going ”all in” on this song is the highlight of the clip…with all due respect to Ravi Shankar. Also dancing to this "curveball" today are: Rick McNay (2:06), Lori Montgomery (2:16) and Linda Hight & Andy Hyatt on the right riser (1:43).
