Prior to COVID-19, the nation was addressing a crisis of opioid addiction and overdose. And this crisis within a crisis has not gone away. Concerns continue to mount regarding the impact and loss of life caused by opioids.
People can save a life if you know who is at risk, identify the signs of overdose, and have Narcan available. Anyone taking an opioid can be at risk of overdose. Individuals at highest risk include those taking more than one opioid medication, people with a recent period of sobriety, or individuals discharged from treatment or incarceration.
Wanda Kratochvil, a public health leader in North Dakota, discusses how we can all play a role in increasing availability of Narcan in our communities.
