Hey everybody, Zack here at erailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the bakflip fibermax hard tonneau cover on our 2018 Ford F-150. Right away, you can see how good this looks. I think it goes well, especially, with the black that we have on top of these bed caps here, it's just an overall nice looking tonneau cover. But you're buying a tonneau cover not just for looks but you want something that's secure. This is really solid.
It is constructed of a fiberglass and aluminum construction, so it's really strong, really durable but it's also going to be lightweight. So, it's easy to use, we're not adding a ton of weight to the back of the vehicle. And when you pair it up with a locking tailgate, like we have here today, you can see, it's unlocked now and I could get full access to the back of my truck but if I have this locked up, can't get in that way, I can't pry this up right now. Now, no tunnel cover is completely solid. If somebody really wanted to get in here, they could really work their self under there and pull that latch to release that and get in but it's going to take some effort. They're going to have to know what they're doing but for most quick thieves, they're going to have an issue trying to get into this.
So, you're getting a really nice secure bed on your truck and that way you can still have full access to your back glass. I know a lot of people have camper shells on the back of their truck and those are nice when you have taller stuff. A lot of duck hunters use them around here but I don't really like them because it's just adding more to the back glass, so I think tonneau cover's the way to go.Now, when it comes to choosing tonneau covers, there's a lot of different options. There are the soft, kind of, older vinyl top ones. Those are nice, cost-effective, they're affordable but they're not the most secure.
They do a good job of keeping most stuff out but it's really easy to get into those. Then when you get into the hard tonneaus, there's ones that take up a lot of space on the side caps here, there's ones that roll up on top, then there's some that have canisters and those are all really nice designs but this one's a tri-fold style. So, this gives us that really hard secure fit but this one is going to allow us to get full bed access. So, we just fold it up just like this and the way we do that is with these releases right here. So, you can do this on either side. So there's a wire right here that you can pull.
There's one on the opposite side and that releases the latches. So, you can hear those releasing, we can get these down like this. Now, you can do it to this point right here, you would just make sure that you are securing these down like this. So, this is a good way to travel down the road, if you only wanted to do half, you would do it on both sides. And when it's not in use, you can clip those right there. But we're going to take this all the way up to get full bed access. So, you can see here, we have a couple of foam strips that protect the glass and finish of our cab and we're going to get most of our bed access. Now, those canister style ones, you're not going to be able to get a lot of stuff up here. So, you're only going to cut off about right here on where that canister sits, those are really nice. They're really easy to use, they just roll up in themselves and then you lose a lot of this space right here. So, this gives us quite a bit more bed space. The downside is, obviously, we're blocking our back glass end. I've driven down the road with these pulled up all the way, not a big fan of that style but you're only doing it every once in a while, whenever you have a full load in the back of the truck, it's not that big of a deal, you get used to it. But that's definitely something to keep in mind if you're trying to decide if you want something like that, full bed access or being able to look out of the back of your back glass there. If you are traveling in this position, it does come with these prop rods. What these do is, these keep our tonneau from folding back down on themselves. So, we can travel at highway speeds with this, we don't have to worry about this coming back. You can see, if came back a little bit, it's not really how it's going to work going down the road but just in case something weird happened, this supports it, so it keeps it from falling back on your load. And then, when it comes time to putting it back down, we just loosen that up, pull that up and then this just secures right in here to our side rail. Another nice feature is the drain tubes that they include. So, if wa
