In the opening credits of Deadpool (2016), the film showcases its unique style by introducing the cast and crew in a humorous manner. The credits describe Ryan Reynolds as "God's perfect idiot" playing Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as the "hot chick" Vanessa, Ed Skrein as the "British villain" Ajax, and Karan Soni as the "comic relief" Dopinder. The credits also introduce Brianna Hildebrand as the "moody teen" Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić voicing the "CGI character" Colossus, and Stan Lee making a "gratuitous cameo" as a DJ. The writers are humorously referred to as "the real heroes."

Throughout the credits and initial scenes, there are several Easter eggs. A cup labeled "Rob L." references Rob Liefeld, Deadpool's co-creator. Ryan Reynolds is featured on a People Magazine cover, an actual issue from 2010. Business cards from the "bad guy" reference No. 5 Orange, a strip club in Reynolds' hometown, Vancouver.

The film begins with Deadpool in a cab driven by Dopinder. Ryan Reynolds' character, Wade Wilson, named Deadpool, breaks the fourth wall frequently, a hallmark of the character. Deadpool's journey includes seeking revenge for his disfigurement, a result of Ajax's experiments. Wade, a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary, was offered an experimental cure for his terminal cancer, which left him horribly disfigured but with a powerful healing factor.

The film spent years in development hell due to concerns over its profitability and desire for an R-rating. It finally got the green light after test footage was leaked to universal praise. The movie had a budget of $58 million and grossed $780 million, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film at the time and the highest-grossing film in the X-Men franchise.

Wade's transformation into Deadpool includes being subjected to various tortures by Ajax to activate his mutant genes. This leads to a confrontation on a bridge, where Deadpool, aided by X-Men Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, battles Ajax and his henchmen.

Deadpool is filled with meta-references, humor, and action, making it a standout film in the superhero genre.
