Hundreds of Armenians from all over the UK gathered in front of 10 Downing Street to once again show their solidarity and unity to protest against Azeri aggression. Members gathered chanted slogans including “Artsakh is Armenia” and “Recognise Artsakh”, where chants also emphasised the need for British government to speak up about the issue. This was one of the largest protests attended by the Armenian community in the UK, where many non-Armenians also attended, with many creatively produced and powerful posters. The protest was followed by a Church service to pray for solidarity and peace for our nation.
As background, Azerbaijan has intently prepared and launched a large-scale military attack against Artsakh and Armenia, targeting and shelling peaceful civilian settlements. Armenia and Artsakh have announced a martial law with the number of causalities rising. The Republic of Artsakh is an integral part of Armenia and was falsely carved out of Armenia, but remains historically and ethnically Armenian. Despite a humanitarian ceasefire announced, Azerbaijan continues to violate the ceasefire. International recognition and coverage of the war remains minimal.
The UK Armenian community stands in prayer and solidarity for our fallen soldiers and calls for peace in Artsakh. Artsakh is our motherland, our present and our future!
