High above the raging Shotover River is the Skippers Canyon Road creeps along the face of Skippers Canyon. Our guide Willy was a very experienced driver and told us not to look down.
The road was built during the gold rush, when a precarious pack track was the only access to Skippers township and the Upper Shotover diggings. Hundreds of miners made the rugged landscape home back in 1862. ⁸
