Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in Brentwood after a brush fire broke out along the 405 freeway, a major north-south highway in Southern California. The blaze started early Monday (October 28) near the Getty Center, one of California's leading art museums. More than 500 acres have burned, according to fire department officials. Some 10,000 homes and commercial buildings are under evacuation orders as over 600 Los Angeles firefighters work to contain the flames.
"If you're in the mandatory evacuation zone, and you're still there watching this, you're an idiot, get the hell out," L.A. City Councilman Paul Koretz told a news briefing.
At least five homes had burned down but there were no reported injuries, Mayor Eric Garcetti told reporters at a news conference with fire officials, warning that he expected the number to rise.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is among the evacuees, as is "Avengers" star Clark Gregg.
