No matter what the result of the upcoming presidential election, two important things will remain true on Nov. 4: first, that the resilience of our democracy is determined by so much more than who wins and who loses on election night; and two, that, after the election, it will be incumbent on all of us as citizens—no matter who we voted for—to find ways to bridge our present divides and work together to rebuild our democracy.

In this moment of national disunion, join Eliot A. Cohen, Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and Hahrie Han, Director of the SNF Agora Institute, with moderation by Professor Henry Farrell of the SNF Agora Institute, for an across-the-aisle discussion of the fundamental questions facing our political parties and, more importantly, where we might find the opportunities for common ground that will be crucial to our ability to move forward as a nation.

The Dean’s Speaker Series is the highest-profile speaker series at Johns Hopkins SAIS. The series will host a diverse array of prominent international affairs practitioners and business leaders for insightful perspectives and thought-provoking discussions on international relations, leadership and other relevant topics that impact our focus areas. This fall will feature distinguished experts around themes such as American Foreign Policy and the 2020 Election, International Order after Coronavirus, Targets of Opportunity in the Global Arena, and Race Relations, Civic Engagement and Global Social Movements.
