Sealing a gouache painting makes it more durable so that you can display it without glass. The problem with some fixatives is that they can be rather harsh to work with. So I searched for the least toxic ways to seal gouache paintings and these are the two that worked best for me.
It's important to conduct some tests before using these methods on a painting. As I show in my tests, it's possible to smear a gouache or watercolor painting when you seal it. With a little practice you can figure out what works.
Dorland's wax medium is really easy to use and it's mostly wax. It does contain naphtha so they recommend wearing gloves and use ventilating your workspace. The manufacturer doesn't have the SDS on their site, you have to request it. However I was able to find the SDS on Blick's site.

Spectrafix is made from casein, water, and alcohol. Casein is made from cow's milk, and it contains a small amount of alcohol. Here's the link to the SDS for the Degas fixative from Spectrafix.

🖌 AQUABORDS
These panels have a clay coating that makes them more absorbent than gesso. The surface has a slight texture to it and you can use them for watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and ink. I find that it works really well with gouache. You can also scrape into it to create white lines and textures.

🖌 CLAYBORDS
These are the same as Aquabords but the have a very smooth surface. A smoother surface allows for more details and fine lines.

🖌 NITRILE GLOVES
These are thin and yet they're as strong as any other glove I've tried. The textured fingertips make a difference, I feel as though I have a better grip than with other gloves that have smooth fingertips. I recommend going a size larger because I bought the large and they fit perfectly, even though I think my hands are medium sized. You can check the OSHA PDF (see above) to see which types of gloves you need for the chemicals you're working with.

🖌 SPECTRAFIX DEGAS FIXATIVE
This fixative is made from casein, water, and alcohol. I recommend getting the spray bottle like the one I used in the video because it creates a finer mist. You can also buy the bottle separately on the manufacturers website, and sometimes you can find it in art supply stores. I've included links to a similar bottle on below. Here's the Spectrafix page on Blick: [ Ссылка ]

🖌 SELF HEALING CUTTING MAT
I use this cutting mat to protect my desk and it also helps blades to last longer. It has a grid on it to make measuring and cutting square corners easier.

🖌 ARTEZA CRAFT STORAGE ORGANIZERS
This is a set of two organizers, they're plastic with a wood handle. I like keeping one of these on my desk to help reduce clutter. I like how I can see what's inside without having to open a lid. They're stackable if the stuff in the bottom organizer isn't taller than the top edge of the organizer.

🖌 BRUSH WASHOUT BASIN
A basin like this works better than using a jar for cleaning your brushes out with water. It's plastic so it won't break if you drop it and the square shape prevents it from tipping over. There are three compartments and one of them has ridges on the bottom to help scrub the paint out of the bristles.
