I continue to update my DIY gravel bike with an update from 700c to wider 29er wheels and tires! I had to adjust the rear frame spacing from 130mm to 135mm. The main difference between 700c wheels and 29er wheels is rim width. 29er wheels have wider rims for fatter tires and are made for offroad/mountain bike riding, so are heavier duty. I went from 700 x 32c tires to 29 x 2.00 tires. When the weather warms up, I will get out for some test rides.
I have had a bunch of people are asking why I didn't go tubeless. Because if I get a flat tire, I will likely be many miles from home. I will not have someone following me with spare wheels. I want to be able to simply install a new tube and be on my way.
These are the tires I installing in the video. They turned out to be just a hair too wide, and rubbed slightly.
