Chronic kidney disease means permanent kidney disease. Kidneys help in filtering blood. They also help in regulating blood pressure. Regulating hemoglobin. All these will be effected with kidney disease.
Most common causes of kidney disease are diabetes and hypertension. Apart from this OTC medications and pain killers can cause kidney disease. Unless there is a drastic decline in kidney function there wont be any symptoms. Anemia ,feeling weak are also indicate kidney disease. If kidney function declines beyond 90 percent then only you can see swelling in the face and feet and recurring vomiting, weight loss etc.
Treatment depends on stage of the disease. If it is stage 1 ,stage 2 or stage 3,you need to control underlying cause. If it is diabetes you have to control sugar levels. If it is high blood pressure you need to control that. If you are smoker you need to quit smoking. If it is in stage 4 there are some medication available which are quite effective.ACE inhibitors and Angiotensin receptor blocker are those proven medications. If it is in stage 5 where 80 percent of the kidney is damaged dialysis and kidney transplant are only options.
By controlling blood pressure , sugar levels, quitting smoking, avoiding pain killers which can damage kidneys and monitoring kidney function you can prevent kidney disease. Don't ignore swelling of the feet ,anemia and expected weight loss.
