Here's something to consider: the biomass of all insects is substantially greater than that of humans, yet they do not consume the world's resources. Put simply, insects fit into the world a lot better than we do, and perhaps that is no surprise: they have been here for approximately 350 million years more than humans have. So maybe they have an unfair headstart.
The great news is that we are learning about how insects operate: how they communicate, how they travel, forage for food, ventilate their accommodation, find water in arid settings, resist disease...and much, much more.
