Ed Cherry Band performs "Peace" by Horace Silver at Zinc Bar for the Guitar Masters Festival in Greenwich Village NYC on Monday April 29, 2024.
As a guitar player myself, I was a bit frustrated all night that I was behind Ed Cherry and could not see his hands playing some of the most beautifully improvised tasteful rhythm parts you will ever hear in jazz.
At the 2:08 mark, I reached out my selfie stick and was able to finally catch Ed's hands play those amazing parts. He is such a gifted player.
So glad I brought that selfie stick!
Everyone is so in the pocket. Ed Cherry and Yotam's guitars blended beautifully together. Claffy plays a great upright solo. Ofri Nehemya is laid back and swingin'!
Ed Cherry is a legendary jazz guitarist known for his work with Dizzy Gillespie from 1978 to 1992, and for his own recordings and projects as a band leader since that time. He is widely known as for his melodicism, exuding a deep expressiveness on the guitar attributed to great singers such as Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and Frank Sinatra.
Tonight Ed featured an first-time All-Star lineup of great swingin' jazz musicians specifically catered for the Guitar Masters Festival - Yotam Silberstein on guitar, Alexander Claffy on upright bass, and Ofri Nehemya on drums.
More amazing, these musicians never played together before they went on stage that night - a testament to their great talent, adaptive skills, and listening abilities.
Ed and Yotam guitars blended beautifully together, and the counterpoint between their playing enhanced the overall experience.
It was a spectacular performance the entire night with fantastic musicianship from all and a great vibe!
This is the 40th installment of my "Great Performances" series, where I upload my own personal LIVE footage from past concerts of great musical artists I've covered either through written articles and/or direct interviews.
The Ed Cherry Band is:
Ed Cherry - Guitar
Yotam Silberstein - Guitar
Alexander Claffy - Upright Bass
Ofri Nehemya- Drums
