USB supplying power to attached device
Does this sound familiar?
If you are encountering the USB supplying power to attached device error, I have a solution that worked for me on my Google Pixel XL phone and will hopefully work for you.
If you have this problem, you will likely keep getting an annoying pop-up notification on your phone that looks like what you see in this video.
For me, I would get this error when I plugged my USB-C charger into the charging port on the phone. This wasn't the only problem.
The phone would not charge unless I selected charge this device from the menu that showed.
This would solve the problem for a short time, but many times would stop charging and the message would return.
What is the cause of this problem?
It is most likely that dirt and dust is inside your charging port on your phone.
Keep watching for instructions on how to clean your charging port and what you will need to do so.
How to Fix the USB Supplying Power to Attached Device Problem
NOTE: Be sure to power down your phone before proceeding
What You’ll Need:
1 bottle of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol
1 Q-Tip
1 Pushpin, thumbtack or perhaps a toothpick
First, blow air into it to dislodge obvious dirt or lint. You can use canned air if you like, but not necessary.
Next take a Q-tip or other cotton swab and dip one end in the 91% isopropyl alcohol.
You will want to clean the contact pins of your charging port.
Clean as much as you can with the cotton swab, then use a toothpick, thumb tack or push pin to push the isopropyl alcohol soaked end further down in order to clean the contact pins further down.
Once the port is clean, let it dry for about 5 minutes before powering back on.
After 5 minutes, go ahead and power your phone back on and plug in your charger.
If all goes well your phone will charge normally and you will not see the annoying system message anymore.
If you still get the system message you may want to check your USB connection settings for what happens when a USB-C cable is plugged into your phone.

Use USB to:
Charge this device
Supply power (charge the connected device. Works only with devices that support USB charging.)
Transfer files
Transfer photos (PTP)
