Is probation worse than parole? Great question. Probation is a suspended prison sentence. Instead of going to prison you are put on probation or supervised release. Parole happens AFTER someone has served time in prison. A person goes to prison and then, if at all, is released to parole. With probation there is always the chance that you can complete the probation sentence and never go to prison. With parole you have already been to prison and the is a chance you could go back.
