Riker and Picard meet for the first time in the episode “Encounter at Farpoint” after the captain made his new first officer dock the saucer section and the star drive manually. Riker snappy: “I hope I show some promise”.
It is interesting to observe the tension between the two men which is lifted towards the end of the scene as Riker passes Picards questioning and is rewarded with the captains approval.
The beginning of a friendship that should last many years afterwards: A great opening scene.
