The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021 introduced in Lok Sabha by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani, seeks to raise the age of legal marriage for women from 18 to 21.

While increasing the legal age of marriage to 21 years for both men & women could seemingly have a lot of positive outcomes, opposition parties & women rights activists are strongly opposing the move for a variety of reasons.
