Dutch wheelchair tennis player Diede de Groot won the Laureus Award for World Sportsperson with a Disability in Madrid on Monday.
In 2023 she became the first tennis player – not just wheelchair tennis player - to win three successive calendar Grand Slams, since wheelchair tennis singles was first played at all four major championships.
She also won the Golden Slam in 2021 after winning an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo.
In 2023 she was unbeaten in 53 singles matches, creating a winning streak stretching back 127 matches to the start of the 2021 Australian Open.
