Jean-Baptiste Barrière was a brilliant French cellist and composer. Around 1740, he published harpsichord transcriptions of some of his cello works; the skill he displayed in adapting the cello pieces to the harpsichord shows that he was well aware of the possibilities of the latter instrument. The present work, in b minor, is easily my favorite of the lot!

As for the samples used: For this recording, I chose to use the samples recorded from a harpsichord that I myself owned for over twenty years: a fine copy by Neupert of an original made by F.E. Blanchet.
