Chess Openings: Learn to Play 1. ...a5!? Against the Polish Opening / Orangutan Opening!
The Polish Opening (also called the Orangutan Opening) is a chess opening for white that starts off with 1. b4! This move may look very strange, but is actually a good chess opening for white that can be hard to deal with if not prepared. The Polish Opening player will often get good opening and middlegame positions simply because their opponent doesn't know what to do against it. Needless to say, once the Polish Opening is played, all normal chess goes out the window! Many think that the Polish Opening is simply a bad chess opening for white, but this simply is not the case. The chess strategy, chess moves, and chess ideas of the Polish Opening are different and unique, but far from bad. If we play normal chess against the Polish, we are going to get a position in which we won't be comfortable. We don't want to be taken out of our comfort zone, but take the Polish Opening player out of his/her comfort zone! Because of this, in today's chess opening video, we cover the response of 1. ...a5!? I myself have played this against FM Mark the Duck on the @CoffeeChess YouTube channel, and get good middlegame positions with it. This is not a common line or variation, but I've developed my own opening theory for it and am excited to share it with you. Thinking outside the box can help you learn how to play chess and how to improve at chess. We hope you enjoy learning this strange move that can help you win games against Polish Opening players!
