Sticky Easel Recipe
Used for coating any size of plywood to use for for making large prints, as well as holding them flat to the surface.
Cold Water 500ml
Gelatin 60g
Corn (Karo) Syrup 60g
Glycerin 60g
Chrome Alum 1.1g
Water to Make 1L
Cheesecloth
Black Paint
Plywood or masonite.
wood glue
Mix the syrup and glycerin in water and soak the gelatin in this mixture for 10 minutes.
Warm it to 52C and let set for 15-30min, stir occationally.
Dissolve alum in 60ml of water, then add to the mix, and add water to make 1L.
Strain through cheesecloth.
Each ounce will cover a 10x10 surface.
Build a simple easel, leaving 1 inch more than the max paper size, by gluing molding around the edge and paint the base black.
Level the easel and coat surface by pouring evenly. Let dry for 1 hour. Add another coat. Several thin layers work better than one thick.
Keep the unused portion heated until complete. Mix cannot be reheated.
Easel will be ready in about six hours and print can be added and removed without residue.
Surface can be preserved with wax paper, or plastic wrap and easel can be recoated as often as needed.
