Iž, an island in the Central Channel between Ugljan and Dugi Otok, is surrounded by about ten islets and is located 14 nautical miles from Zadar.
The island of Iž is a kind of kingdom, a small realm consisting of just two letters. Its beauty is known only to a few adventurers and sailors, nature enthusiasts who are in love with untouched landscapes, and those seeking to escape to "the end of the world" to enjoy solitude.
The island is 12.5 kilometers long, 2.7 kilometers wide, with a total area of 17.59 square kilometers. Its rugged coastline spans 35.1 kilometers.
Mass tourism is absent here. You'll discover something almost forgotten, something that only small, hidden islands can offer: absolute tranquility. And something many of us have likely forgotten – the people who make each place unique. Here, where you can explore all the beauty and culture in two days, the most valuable thing you'll undoubtedly receive is the hospitality of the locals.
The traditional occupations of the population, fishing and agriculture, guarantee delicious local cuisine served in restaurants. My personal recommendation is Konoba Mandrač.
Daily ferry connections to Zadar make Iž easily accessible, even for families with young children.
The island's center, Veli Iž, lies in a tranquil bay on the northeast side of the island. It still exudes the original and traditional rhythm of island life. Olive farming, fishing, and seafaring are the most common occupations of its small population. In the town center, you'll find a renovated church of St. Peter, a cultural center, an ethnographic collection, several authentic taverns and restaurants, three cafes, a shop, a post office, a medical clinic, a hotel, and a modern marina.
