Unlike the boxes, when you dig into the diagonal approach, you can manipulate it across the entire fretboard. The coolest part about diagonal is it’s easy to see the interval structure because it stays consistent in all octaves. Wanna add the blue note? No problem. Wanna add the 9 in? No problem. Wanna take a 2 string lick in 6 different positions across the neck? No problem. As with essentially all guitar things…if you hit the B string, you gotta manipulate anything by a half step…but otherwise? Diagonal gets you crushing across the entire neck.
