Cathuspatha (enunciated phonetically as "cha-twos-pa-tha") is a rock band from Bandung, Indonesia. Established in 2005 under the name of "Vickyvette" and determined to switch their name to Cathuspatha from 2012. Since then, they have issued an album called "Unconscious Shimmering" and "Into the Universe" EP in 2010. Promptly they will publish their "old" material in 2020.
Sparked by the name of a porn star called Vickyvette, Rayhan Sudrajat (guitar & vocal) and Ferdi Adriansyah (bass) elected the name when they lodged their application to play for the first time in their high school, SMAN 8 Bandung. Later Rayhan and Ferdi invited Prajadhipa Akbar entered as lead guitarist and Shadian Merwyn as the drummer. Their first act performed in Indonesian independence festival day in their high school by brought some songs from Arctic Monkeys. At their first year, they heavily influenced by bands such as Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys and other British bands. In the beginning of 2008, their songs "Unlimited Loyalty" has selected as one of the songs in the national indie band competition called LA Lights Indiefest Volume 3. The compilation has marked their journey to begin to start collecting their songs and decided to release their first album shortly. In the middle of 2009, Ferdi has left, and the position had replaced by Mario Panji.
In the beginning of 2010, "Unconscious Shimmering" has released worldwide for the first time and has gathered commentaries from various listeners. Dede from Wastedrockers argues that their music has heavily influenced by space-rock, noise-rock, post-hardcore, and post-punk (Wastedrockers). After released their first debut, Mario decided to leave, and his position had replaced by Adhit Android for a while before Ferdi re-assigned as a supplementary player. At the end of 2010, they have released their first EP called "Into the Universe" which traversed the genre amongst the neo-psychedelic, art-rock, progressive rock (Wastedrockers). The EP has released by Loud for Goodness and limitedly printed.
Through ups and downs about the band's name and few people critique the name because it is associated with a porn star's name, the band decided to change their name to "Cathuspatha" in 2012. Later on, Adithya Prawira united in 2012, and they had already recorded their material for a next EP before the band decided to hiatus for uncertain time. Finally, in 2020, they will release the material to the public.
