This is another of my souvenirs from Vienna : a lovely version of the song "Mach dir nichts daraus" (Don't worry about it) from the 1943/44 musical "Die Frau meiner Träume" (The girl of my dreams).
"Die Frau meiner Träume" was the last wartime Agfacolor musical. Because of its star Marika Rökk and its director Georg Jacoby it enjoyed the highest production values. Filming started in 1943 but the movie was held back by censors. In one musical sequence Marika Rökk danced a sensual tango/bolero (in a see-through dress) which so enraged minister of propaganda Joseph Goebbels that he ordered the entire sequence to be reshot. This took up considerable time and the movie went into release the 25th of August 1944.
The response was astonisihing. Despite the bombing raids, the destruction and the realisation by most that the war was hopelessly lost, people fought to get into the cinemas showing "Die Frau meiner Träume".... The spectacular musical numbers (the pastel colors looked superb in Agfacolor) were held together by a thin plotline about a singer/dancer needing a holiday and ending up in the mountains and in the arms of an egineer.
Apparently "Die Frau meiner Träume" was one of the first German movies showed as a so called "trophy movie" in Russia after the war, together with another musical, the ice skating extravaganza "Der weisse Traum" (1943).
In the late 1940s and early 1950s the movie went into release once again and was also exported to countries in Western Europe where Marika Rökk continued to be a popular movie star.
More information about the orchestra would be appreciated...
The video shows the UFA movie studios in Berlin-Tempelhof after an air raid in 1944 (the largest UFA studios were located in Babelsberg outside of Berlin) as well as a sequence from "Die Frau meiner Träume" and pictures of Marika Rökk and the Belgian movie poster of "Die Frau meiner Träume" (from the late 1940s/early 1950s).
