We are saddened to report that Adan Canto, a Mexican-American actor who rose to fame in Hollywood, has died at the age of 42 after a battle with appendiceal cancer. Canto was best known for his role as Vice President-elect Aaron Shore in the hit political thriller series Designated Survivor, alongside Kiefer Sutherland. He also starred in the crime drama series The Cleaning Lady, where he played a lead character for the first two seasons. Fox and WBTV, the network and studio behind The Cleaning Lady, praised Canto’s talent and expressed their condolences in a statement.
Canto began his career as a musician in Mexico City, before switching to acting when he landed a significant role in the 2013 series, The Following. He spoke about his challenges and opportunities as a Mexican actor in the US in an interview with Collider in January 2022. He was set to join the third season of The Cleaning Lady, despite being unable to participate in filming due to the strikes.
Canto also had a successful film career, most notably playing Sunspot, a mutant superhero, in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. He also directed two short films, one in 2014 and another in 2020. Canto is survived by his wife Stephanie Ann Canto and their two young children, Roman Alder and Eve Josephine. He will be greatly missed by his fans, friends, and family.
