Congratulations! You have found your silica sampling solution to meet OSHA's Final Silica Rule. Join others who are transitioning away from traditional cyclones to the impaction-based SKC Parallel Particle Impactor (PPI) Samplers for respirable crystalline silica. In its final rule, OSHA notes that "personal impactors are available for use at flow rates from 2 to 8 L/min and have been shown to conform closely to the ISO/CEN convention." SKC PPI Samplers look like a standard 37-mm cassette, but comprise four size-selective impactors with pre-oiled impactor plates that scrub and retain larger non-respirable particles. Each uniquely sized impactor has a 50% cut-point that corresponds to a specific location along the ISO/CEN curve. Respirable dust collects on a 37-mm collection filter that is sent to an accredited laboratory for analysis. SKC PPI Sampler models are available for use with sample pumps at 2, 4, or 8 L/min. PPI Samplers feature high collection efficiency, no static, effects, small size, and light weight. Because PPI impaction substrates retain large particles, PPI Samplers can be tipped without invalidating the sample. All models are available in reusable aluminum or disposable plastic. The major advantages of PPI Samplers over cyclones are a closer match to the ISO 7708/CEN criteria and the ability to maintain sample integrity even when inverted.
