In a major development, the U.S. Army has received the first Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM), replacing the legacy Army Tactical Missile System. The delivery, following successful testing in November, is part of the Army's ambitious plan to deploy 24 modernization programs by the end of 2023.
The PrSM, provides 24/7, all-weather capabilities, countering enemy combat maneuver and air defense operations.
Developed by Lockheed Martin, the PrSM addresses the need for deep-strike capabilities against evolving threats from Russia and China. The Army plans to enhance the missile's seeker and extend its lethality and range.
Notably, the U.S. withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 2019 allows the PrSM to surpass its planned 499-kilometer range.
