On 7 May 2021, the City Rail Link big tunnel boring machine (TBM) was turned on for the first time in preparation of the machine starting its excavation of the CRL tunnels.
The ceremony was held at the Link Alliance Mt Eden construction site and Transport Minister Michael Wood and Auckland Mayor Phil Goff pulled the switch.
