I live in Argentina, a country that has been under populist governments since 1945.
All over the years, leaders claim to fight for social equality but only the powerful in the political market prosper, while the rest of the population is entertained with dishonest charity, unsustainable projects and national chain speeches.
The eternal embezzlement of the words “education, progress and security”, always invoking human rights as a mask to cover up the scandals of corruption and authoritarian attitudes.
In 2015 there was a change of government, populism lost. Even so, its footprint is still present today: the monumental public debt, deficit, import growth, damage to regional economies, and the increase of poverty.
For me populism is simply a fiction which sacrifices the future in the name of an ephemeral present.
