This cutting board is made with purple heart wood and walnut wood. I show the steps of the process of how I make cutting boards. I cut the wood and joint and plane the rough lumber. I glue the strips together. I make them long enough to cut two cutting boards out of one glue up. After a few hours, or sometimes over night, I will unclamp the boards. I scrape of any extra glue so the board will sit on the bottom of the planer flat. I run it through the planer a few times, flipping each time to get a flat board. I run one edge on the jointer to get a straight edge. I do that because sometimes it bows slightly in the glue up process. I put the edge I jointed against the table saw sled fence, and cut the boards to size length ways. The length of these boards is 17”. I did not video this part, but I do cut them the other way to 13”. Next I send them through the drum sander. The drum sander removes any chip out from the planer. It also cut down on sanding with my orbital sander. The drum sander has 80 grit on it. I also start with 80 grit with the orbital sander. Then I put a chanfer on the edges with my router. It was suggested that I use a router table, but I think it is more efficient for me to use my handheld router. I use my corded router for the chanfer, and I bought a second cordless router for the juice groove. I made the juice groove jig adjustable, because I receive custom order of different sizes. I route the juice groove twice to make it deep. When I tried to do the deep groove in one pass, it was to hard on the router. I also put grooves on the ends of the boards for an easy way to pick the cutting board up. I sand the edges and the grooves with 120 grit by hand. I sand the faces and sides of the board with 120 grit with my orbital sander. To see if anyone is reading this, simply write “wood” in the comments. I wipe the dust off and spray the cutting boards with water. The reason I spray with water is to raise the grain. The water makes the grain stand up for the final sanding. After the boards dry, I burn my logo on the side, then I sand with 220 grit. I wipe the dust off and it is ready for oil. I use cutting board oil and the company is Walrus Oil. I wipe the cutting boards with oil, and let the oil soak in for 12 hours or more. I wipe off any extra oil and the boards are ready to ship! I ship my cutting boards and other woodwork all over United States. I sent my woodwork product to all the 50 states, which was one of my goals! If you took the time to read this, thank you!
