Turkey launched deadly airstrikes over northern regions of Syria and Iraq, targeting Kurdish groups
that Ankara holds responsible for last week's bomb attack in Istanbul.
Warplanes attacked bases of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Syrian People's
Protection Units (YPG). The defence ministry cited Turkey's right to self defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and said it was targeting areas "used as a base by terrorists in their attacks on our country".
Syrian Kurdish officials have alleged civilian deaths from the air attacks.
The strikes come a week after a bombing on one of Istanbul's busiest streets, which killed six people and injured more than 80.
Turkish authorities blamed the attack on PKK and its Syrian affiliate, YPG, arrested dozens of people in connection with the attack, including a Syrian woman who they say planted the bomb.
The Kurdish militant groups have, however, denied involvement.
In recent years, Turkey has conducted a number of cross-border operations targeting Kurdish groups based in northern Iraq and Syria, aiming to prevent attacks on Turkish territory.
