In Colorado, a lot of people like to carry a stun gun as a non-lethal alternative to a firearm for self-defense. A stun gun, like those manufactured by Taser or Vipertek, can often look like a firearm or can be disguised as a keychain. But instead of emitting a bullet, they emit an electrical discharge that can temporarily disable an attacker.

It is perfectly legal in Colorado to possess a stun gun in order to defend yourself against a crime. However, if you use a stun gun to aid in the commission, you face an additional penalty of up to three years in Colorado State Prison on top of the penalty for that crime even if you never discharged the stun gun.
