WHO '지카 바이러스 비상사태' 해제…브라질 "비상사태 유지"
The World Health Organization has declared the Zika international public health emergency to be over.
But a spokesman says the virus, which has been linked to brain defects in babies, continues to pose a significant threat in many countries.
The UN health agency says it will continue to work on the outbreak through a robust program to address the long-term nature of the disease and its associated consequences.
The WHO, which designated the Zika virus a health emergency nine months ago, says more than two-thousand cases of nervous-system malformations have been reported in Brazil alone since the outbreak began.
