The indictment in the VAT fraud case levelled at alleged key underworld figure Nafiz Modack and eight others, including his brother and mother, shows how they allegedly pulled off a R46 million VAT fraud scheme.

According to an indictment, collectively, they face 711 charges relating to the taxman paying out R46 651 794 in tax refunds that it contends the companies were not entitled to.
