One of New Delhi's principal thoroughfares is called Janpath, which means People's Path. It begins as Radial Road 1 at Connaught Place, close to Palika Bazaar, and travels north to south parallel to Rajpath (the "Rulers' path") and past it. When the new capital of India was inaugurated in 1931, it was a key component of Lutyens' design of the Lutyens' Delhi, originally known as Queen's Way. One of the most well-known markets in New Delhi for tourists (both Indian and foreign) is Janpath Market. The market is essentially a lengthy row of specialty shops selling goods that are difficult to locate in the city's malls and multi-chain retailers. The lengthy row of boutiques caters to bargain hunters, shoppers, and buyers of clothing and handicrafts.
