The 8th edition of the Quemao Class hit Lanzarote in the Canary Islands in spectacular fashion.
Some of the world's finest tube-riding bodyboarders showcased their skills in 8- to 12-foot waves at El Quemao in La Santa, including Amaury Lavernhe and Mike Stewart.
The early rounds saw the Frenchman Ethan Capdeville and the Gran Canarian William Lujan moving through to the quarterfinals.
Capdeville won his heat and was thrilled with the experience.
"I am very happy to have won my heat. The waves today have been incredible," stated Ethan Capdeville.
"All the competitors are at a very high level, but I was able to catch two very good waves."
Local bodyboarders Pablo Lecouey and Javier Rojas from Tenerife also stood out with above-average rides.
"This wave is magnificent. There is a lot of competition and a very high level in the water. You have to be in the right place at the right time to catch the best waves," concluded Rojas.
The last day of competition is expected to exceed the already spectacular conditions of this first day.
