Applicants for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa in New South Wales have been invited to register their interest (Subclass 491). The state government will select and invite candidates to a Regional Development Australia (RDA) office during the submission window and for up to seven days after it closes.
New South Wales has been divided into 14 RDA committees: Central West, Far South Coast, Far West, Hunter, Illawarra, Mid North Coast, Murray, Northern Inland, Northern Rivers, Orana, Riverina, Southern Inland and Sydney. There are three streams in which applicants can submit for nomination.
Those who live and work in regional New South Wales are eligible for Stream 1. The applicant must have lived and worked in the nominated occupation in his or her RDA for 12 months.
Whereas those who completed their studies in the state's regional areas are eligible for Stream 2. Applicants in Stream 2 must have completed their studies in a regional university, such as the University of Wollongong or Charles Sturt University.
Stream 3 is meant for people skilled in an occupation that is in demand in regional New South Wales, but preference is given to migrants registering their interest under Stream 1
The process is new. Both offshore and interstate applicants can now apply for Stream 2. This visa allows skilled migrants to live, study and work in designated regional areas for five years. The current processing period for this visa is 10 to 13 months, and the fee starts at $4,115.
Applicants must check their eligibility, complete a Skillselect expression of interest, and register their interest during the submission window. Once invited, they will have to apply to an RDA office where their skills are required, within 14 days.
